Composition
A species-rich blend of Meadow Foxtail, Festuca, and Lucerne. Grown on designated grain land under controlled conditions, certified and rigorously lab-tested for consistency and quality.
Feeding rate · 500 kg horse
As base forage: 1.5 – 2% of bodyweight per day, roughly 8 – 10 kg as fed. As a supplement: 2 – 4 kg per day alongside a lower-energy hay, to lift the protein and energy of the ration.
Can be fed as sole forage, or partly: mixing in 20 – 30% Meadow Hay lowers the sugar and energy load without cutting the ration.
What this hay does
At 2.04 Mcal/kg DM and 11.6% crude protein, Longchamp covers most of the energy and protein needs of a horse in light to moderate work from forage alone, reducing the need for hard feed. The low lignin value (4.7%) means highly digestible fibre, so more energy is released in the hindgut and gut function stays steadier. Suitable as complete base forage for sport and leisure horses, senior horses, and horses building condition.
Not suitable for
At around 10% sugar, this hay is less suitable as a sole forage for horses with EMS, insulin dysregulation, laminitis, PSSM or Cushing's, and for easy keepers, ponies and Iberian breeds that gain weight readily.
Important: cutting the hay ration is not the answer for an overweight or sugar-sensitive horse. Choose a lower-sugar forage instead. Our Meadow Hay (1.86 Mcal/kg DM · 4.5% sugar) is made for exactly that.
