Alternative Dispute Resolution
How to resolve disputes out of court.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) gives consumers the option to turn to official bodies that help resolve or guide disputes out of court. The Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform, managed by the European Commission, helps consumers and traders settle disputes without going to court.
Consumers as defined under Law No. 144/2015 who have entered into purchase or service contracts have the right to refer disputes to official conflict-resolution bodies, without prejudice to taking the matter to a judicial court.
The updated list of ADR entities available under Article 17 of Law No. 144/2015 of 8 September is published on the Consumer Portal at www.consumidor.pt.
For disputes arising from online purchases, consumers may also use the EU’s Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform.
