The renewed Vilamoura Equestrian Centre marks a big shift in the Algarve's equestrian scene. With upgraded facilities and growing international attention, the region is quickly becoming a key destination for riders, trainers and competition teams from around the world, and with that rise comes higher demand for premium-quality feed and forage.
From a Gap in the Market to a Trusted Name
When Prime Hay arrived in the Algarve two and a half years ago, the market lacked consistent, high-grade hay matching international performance standards. Riders competing at a high level need to know that what lands in the feed room today will be the same next week, because sudden changes in forage can unsettle a horse's gut and undermine careful preparation. That gap changed quickly, and Prime Hay grew from a small start-up into one of the leading hay suppliers in Portugal and Spain, trusted by professionals and top riders for their sport horses.
A World-Class Venue
The revamped venue offers world-class facilities: three sand arenas each over 6,500 m², a 14,000 m² grass arena, one of Europe's largest covered free-training arenas, more than 1,000 fixed stables, a veterinary clinic and premium hospitality zones. Facilities on this scale do more than host competitions; they draw entire touring stables to the Algarve for weeks at a time, each one arriving with horses that depend on reliable, high-quality forage throughout their stay.
A busy calendar follows, including the Classic Tour and a Master Tour that brings the first ever CSI5* held in Vilamoura in March 2026. Events at this level place the Algarve firmly on the international map and raise expectations for everything that supports the horses behind the scenes, feed and forage very much included.
The Forage That Travels Well
Among our range, one product consistently rises above the rest for competition life: Meadow Hay – Extra Pressed. Because it is double compressed, it is easy to store, effortless to transport and perfect to take to competitions, yet remains rich in nutrients, green, clean and consistent. For a rider loading up for a multi-week tour, that combination of compact packaging and uncompromised quality is genuinely practical, saving space in the lorry without asking the horse to eat anything less than the best.
As the region attracts more international riders, they can rely on world-standard forage right here in the Algarve, close to the arenas and delivered when they need it. Premium horses deserve premium forage, and we are proud to be part of Vilamoura's growing story. If you are travelling to the region to train or compete, reach out and we will make sure your horses are well supplied.
